The Indian government has recently raised the price of cooking gas cylinders by Rs 50, impacting consumers under the Ujjwala scheme and general users across the country. The cost for Ujjwala beneficiaries has gone up from Rs 500 to Rs 550, while general consumers will now have to pay Rs 853 instead of the previous Rs 803. Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri explained that the price hike is necessary to compensate for the Rs 43,000 crore losses incurred by oil marketing companies. This move has been made to stabilize the market and ensure the sustainability of LPG supplies in India.
