Aavegotchi, a non-fungible token (NFT) protocol focused on Web3 gaming, has decided to shift from the Polygon blockchain network to Base, an Ethereum layer-2 scaling chain, following a community vote. The transition, supported by 93.5% of voters, aims to “Make Aavegotchi Based Again” by deprecating smart contracts on Polygon and migrating to Base, as per the governance page. Founder Dan proposed the move earlier, citing a strategic alliance with the Base team and recent ecosystem enhancements. The migration is part of Aavegotchi’s adaptation to the current cryptocurrency market challenges, exacerbated by recent tariff announcements. Pixelcraft Studios, the developer behind Aavegotchi, has undergone team cuts to manage costs in a tough market environment. The shift underscores Polygon’s struggle to retain users and total value locked (TVL) compared to rivals like Arbitrum and Base, which each hold over $2 billion in TVL. Polygon’s TVL has dropped from $10 billion to $725 million, while Base and Arbitrum have seen significant TVL growth. Dan criticized Polygon for lack of updates for gaming protocols, favoring Base for its performance and retail accessibility. Base, a rollup by Coinbase, offers promising prospects for Aavegotchi, a project born from the collaboration between Pixelcraft Studios and Aave. Aavegotchi’s NFTs, described as digital collectibles with customizable features, continue to attract interest in the evolving NFT market in India.
