India mulls zero-duty US imports to fast-track trade deal with strict rules of origin, including PLI sectors.

In a move to boost bilateral trade, India is contemplating zero-duty imports from the US in multiple sectors, including those covered under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. This initiative aims to accelerate the negotiation of a trade agreement between the two countries and potentially rollback reciprocal tariffs. However, the proposal comes with a prerequisite of stringent rules of origin, mandating a 30-40% value addition on the imported goods. This development signifies a significant step towards strengthening trade relations between India and the US.
