El Salvador, the first country to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender, has partnered with Nvidia to develop artificial intelligence infrastructure. The National Bitcoin Office of El Salvador announced the collaboration with Nvidia on April 21 to implement “sovereign AI” for innovation and economic growth. Through this partnership, El Salvador will leverage Nvidia’s AI tools and expertise to focus on national priorities such as culture, language, environment, and the economy. The country aims to build domestic AI infrastructure, upskill the workforce, and address local challenges like healthcare delivery and education. El Salvador will also establish AI training programs for developers and officials to support its AI ambitions. This collaboration with Nvidia adds to El Salvador’s efforts in promoting AI usage for government and societal processes. El Salvador’s previous AI initiatives include the CUBO_ai public education program launched in March 2025, supported by Cathie Wood. Wood has predicted that El Salvador’s Bitcoin and AI plans could boost GDP tenfold by 2029. While El Salvador has been proactive in initiating AI projects, its Bitcoin ambitions faced constraints from the International Monetary Fund, which limited further Bitcoin purchases. Despite this, the government continues to stack 1 Bitcoin a day, raising questions about the implications of the IMF deal.
