Years of leakage from Gujarat’s Narmada canal network have resulted in a 65km water trail across the ecologically sensitive Little Rann of Kutch, sparking concerns about the environmental impact. The Gujarat State Human Rights Commission has stepped in to address the issue by implementing remedial actions, such as canal repair plans and water diversion strategies, in collaboration with the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited. This development highlights the urgent need to preserve the region’s delicate ecosystem and ensure the efficient delivery of water through the canal network.
