Bitcoin Price Surges Over Easter Weekend, Institutional Interest Rises – What’s Driving BTC Momentum?

Bitcoin price surged over the Easter weekend, jumping 9% and crossing the $91,000 threshold on April 22 in India. This strong performance diverged sharply from the stock market’s lukewarm rebound and mirrored gold’s bullish behavior, which briefly touched a new all-time high of $3,500. The derivatives market offers an even more bullish signal with Bitcoin open interest (OI) soaring by 17%, reaching a 2-month high at $68.3, indicating a growing bullish sentiment among traders. The market is currently in contango, with futures prices higher than the spot price, as investors anticipate rising prices and leverage tools offered by exchanges. Institutional interest is reawakening, as seen in the Coinbase Bitcoin Premium Index showing institutional demand kicking in on April 21-22. Michael Saylor’s Strategy and Japan-based Metaplanet also added significant amounts of BTC to their holdings. Additionally, traditional financial instruments investors are renewing their interest, with BTC ETFs recording $381 million in inflows on April 21. The US dollar’s value against a basket of currencies has been in freefall since February, potentially benefiting Bitcoin as confidence in traditional monetary systems erodes. As Bitcoin continues to show strength, investors should conduct their own research before making any investment decisions.
