EU fines Apple and Meta €500M and €200M for Digital Market Act violations, targeting App Store restrictions and ad consent.

The European Union has recently issued fines to tech giants Apple and Meta for breaching the Digital Market Act (DMA). Apple has been fined 500 million euros for limiting app developers from guiding users to lower-priced alternatives outside of the App Store. Meanwhile, Meta, previously known as Facebook, is facing penalties of 200 million euros for compelling users to agree to personalized advertisements or opt to pay to evade them. Both companies have been charged with violations that restrict competition and hinder consumer choice within the digital market. This move by the EU highlights the increasing scrutiny and regulation of big tech companies globally. Apple and Meta are now required to comply with the DMA and make necessary adjustments to their business practices to avoid further penalties.
