Shaquille O’Neal settles FTX lawsuit, terms confidential. Celebrities embroiled in FTX legal troubles. Settlement reached in NFT project.

Former NBA player Shaquille O’Neal has reached a settlement with investors involved in the collapse of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX, as per court documents filed on April 23 in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida. The settlement amount remains undisclosed, and terms are anticipated to be revealed once investors formally seek preliminary court approval. O’Neal, along with other celebrities and athletes, faced allegations of endorsing FTX and allegedly contributing to investor losses by supporting the now-defunct exchange. This case is part of a larger multidistrict litigation where investors are pursuing up to $21 billion in damages from FTX insiders, advisors, and promoters, surpassing the $9.2 billion available through bankruptcy proceedings. Notable figures like NFL quarterback Tom Brady, supermodel Gisele Bündchen, billionaire investor Kevin O’Leary, and others are also entangled in similar legal issues related to FTX. O’Neal recently agreed to an $11 million settlement over the Astrals NFT project. The settlement with FTX investors comes after O’Neal’s involvement in the Solana-based Astrals NFT project, where he was served with a lawsuit during an NBA game in Miami. The lawsuit accused O’Neal of promoting unregistered securities through the NFTs. In August 2024, a Miami federal court judge ruled that O’Neal would need to defend some claims in the case. Astrals is a Solana-based project featuring 10,000 NFTs, a metaverse called Astralworld, and a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) with a governance token named Galaxy.
