India’s Direct Tax Collections Exceed Rs 27 Lakh Crore, Show 15.6% Growth; Fiscal Deficit May Improve

India’s gross direct tax collections witnessed a significant 15.6% surge, surpassing Rs 27 lakh crore in the previous fiscal year. This growth can be attributed to the rise in both income tax and corporation tax collections. The net direct tax collection also showed a positive trend, meeting expectations and reaching nearly Rs 22.3 lakh crore, reflecting a 13.6% increase. The boost in tax revenues coupled with savings in expenditures indicate a possible enhancement in the fiscal deficit compared to the budget projections.
