India’s Direct Tax Collections Hit Record High, Exceeding Rs 27 Lakh Crore; Fiscal Deficit May Improve

India’s direct tax collections witnessed a significant boost, registering a 15.6% increase to surpass Rs 27 lakh crore in the previous fiscal year. This growth was primarily fueled by rises in both income tax and corporation tax payments. The net direct tax collection also met expectations, reaching nearly Rs 22.3 lakh crore, reflecting a 13.6% surge. The uptick in tax revenue coupled with cost savings indicates a possible enhancement in the fiscal deficit as compared to the budget projections.
