India Lifts 171 Million Out of Extreme Poverty, But Challenges Remain: World Bank Data

According to a recent report by the World Bank, India has successfully lifted a staggering 171 million individuals out of extreme poverty from 2011-12 to 2022-23, bringing the poverty rate down to 2.3%. Utilizing a poverty line of $3.65 per day, the country has managed to uplift 378 million people out of poverty during this period. This achievement signifies a remarkable advancement, although certain challenges persist. Issues such as youth unemployment and gender imbalances in the workforce continue to pose obstacles, despite an overall increase in employment rates across the nation. The data highlights the progress made by India in combating poverty, yet underscores the need for targeted efforts to address the remaining socioeconomic disparities.
