India has made remarkable progress in reducing extreme poverty, according to the latest report from the World Bank. Between 2011-12 and 2022-23, the country managed to lift 171 million people out of extreme poverty, bringing the poverty rate down to 2.3%. This achievement translates to a total of 378 million individuals being lifted out of poverty when using a poverty line of $3.65 per day. Despite these positive developments, India still faces challenges such as youth unemployment and gender disparities in employment, even as overall employment rates continue to rise. The efforts to combat poverty in India have shown promising results, but there is still work to be done to ensure sustainable and inclusive growth for all segments of society.
