India Lifts 171 Million Out of Extreme Poverty, World Bank Reports, but Challenges Remain Amid Progress

According to a recent report by the World Bank, India has made remarkable strides in reducing extreme poverty, lifting 171 million people out of poverty between 2011-12 and 2022-23, bringing the poverty rate down to 2.3%. This achievement translates to 378 million individuals being lifted above the poverty line of $3.65 per day. Despite these impressive numbers, the country still faces challenges such as high youth unemployment rates and gender disparities in the workforce, even as overall employment rates are on the rise. The report underscores the need for continued efforts to address these issues and ensure sustainable growth and development in India.
