The World Bank recently released a report indicating that India has made substantial strides in reducing extreme poverty within its borders. According to the report, between the years 2011-12 and 2022-23, India managed to lift a staggering 171 million individuals out of extreme poverty, bringing the poverty rate down to 2.3%. When considering a poverty line of $3.65 per day, the number of people lifted out of poverty increases to a remarkable 378 million. This significant achievement highlights the efforts made by the Indian government and various organizations to address poverty and improve the living conditions of its citizens. However, despite this progress, there are still challenges that need to be addressed. One of the key issues is youth unemployment, which continues to be a pressing concern in the country. Additionally, gender disparities in employment persist, despite an overall increase in employment rates. It is evident that while India has made remarkable progress in reducing poverty, there is still work to be done to ensure that all citizens have access to opportunities that will allow them to lead better lives.
