India’s gross direct tax collections witnessed a significant 15.6% surge, crossing Rs 27 lakh crore in the previous fiscal year. The growth was primarily fueled by rises in both income tax and corporation tax. Net direct tax collection also performed well, meeting targets and reaching nearly Rs 22.3 lakh crore, reflecting a 13.6% increase. The uptick in tax revenue and expenditure savings indicate a possible enhancement in the fiscal deficit when compared to budget projections.
