A recent Special Investigation Team (SIT) report has uncovered a trail of kickbacks leading to former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy in what is now being referred to as the AP liquor scam. The report indicates that kickbacks were received from Andhra Pradesh distilleries starting from 2019. The scandal involved pressuring distilleries to pay commissions to prevent interruptions in supply orders. It is alleged that cash collected from these kickbacks was then laundered through hawala networks, significantly affecting the state’s liquor industry by promoting brands associated with syndicates. The findings of the SIT report have raised serious concerns about corruption within the liquor business in Andhra Pradesh.
