Tamil Nadu Electricity Ombudsman mandates separate electricity connections for independent floors, citing 2022 tariff order.

In a significant ruling, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Ombudsman has decreed that independent floors are eligible for separate domestic electricity connections as per the 2022 tariff order. This decision follows complaints lodged against the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO), which had been refusing connections for independent floors within buildings owned by a single individual. The Ombudsman’s ruling overturned a previous order by a consumer forum in a case involving I John Bosco in Nagercoil. This move is expected to benefit many homeowners in Tamil Nadu seeking individual electricity connections for their independent floors.
