“Tamil Nadu Electricity Ombudsman mandates separate power connections for independent floors, citing 2022 tariff order”

In a significant ruling, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Ombudsman has mandated separate domestic electricity connections for independent floors in buildings. The decision, based on the 2022 tariff order, follows complaints lodged against the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) for refusing connections in buildings with a single owner. The Ombudsman’s decision overturns a previous order by a consumer forum and sets a precedent for cases like that of I John Bosco in Nagercoil. This ruling ensures that each floor of a building, even if owned by a single individual, is eligible for its own electricity connection, providing clarity and fair access to power supply for all residents.
