India lifts 171 million out of extreme poverty, reduces rate to 2.3%: World Bank Report

According to a recent report by the World Bank, India has made remarkable strides in reducing extreme poverty, with 171 million people lifted out of poverty between 2011-12 and 2022-23, bringing down the poverty rate to 2.3%. When using a poverty line of $3.65 per day, the number of individuals lifted out of poverty increases to 378 million. This progress is commendable, but India still faces challenges such as youth unemployment and gender disparities in employment, even with increasing employment rates. The government and other stakeholders need to focus on addressing these issues to ensure sustained economic growth and poverty reduction in the country.
