India has made remarkable progress in reducing extreme poverty, according to the latest report from the World Bank. Between 2011-12 and 2022-23, the country lifted a staggering 171 million people out of extreme poverty, bringing the poverty rate down to 2.3%. When using a poverty line of $3.65 per day, the number of individuals lifted out of poverty increases to 378 million. This achievement is a testament to India’s efforts in promoting economic growth and social development. However, despite these positive outcomes, challenges still persist. Youth unemployment remains a pressing issue, with many young people struggling to find stable and decent employment opportunities. Additionally, gender disparities in the workforce continue to be a concern, despite overall rising employment rates. As India continues on its path towards sustainable development, addressing these challenges will be crucial to ensuring inclusive growth and prosperity for all its citizens.
