India has made remarkable progress in reducing extreme poverty, with the World Bank reporting that 171 million people were lifted out of poverty between 2011-12 and 2022-23, bringing the poverty rate down to 2.3%. A poverty line of $3.65 per day saw 378 million individuals being lifted out of poverty during this period. Despite these achievements, challenges persist, particularly in addressing youth unemployment and gender disparities in employment, even as overall employment rates are on the rise. The efforts to combat poverty in India have been commendable, but there is still work to be done to ensure sustainable and inclusive growth for all segments of the population.
