The Saraswati River, a mythical river mentioned in ancient Hindu texts, is being revived by the Saraswati Heritage Development Board (SHDB) in collaboration with the Haryana Space Applications Centre (HARSAC) and the Central Water Commission (CWC). The ambitious plan involves channeling water from the Sutlej River into the Saraswati River to rejuvenate it. This project aims to harness satellite imagery and geographic information system (GIS) technology to trace the path of the ancient river and channel water accordingly. The SHDB is working closely with experts from HARSAC and the CWC to ensure the successful implementation of this project. The revival of the Saraswati River is significant not only from a cultural and historical perspective but also from an environmental and agricultural standpoint. The project is expected to benefit the region by providing much-needed water for irrigation and drinking purposes. The collaboration between the SHDB, HARSAC, and the CWC is a step towards preserving India’s rich cultural heritage and addressing the water scarcity issues in the region. Stay tuned for more updates on this groundbreaking initiative.
