“Ethereum’s Fusaka Hard Fork Scheduled for Late 2025 with EVM Upgrade Included, Controversy Ensues”

The Fusaka hard fork of Ethereum is anticipated to occur in the latter part of 2025, as per a statement by a representative of the Ethereum Foundation. Tomasz Kajetan Stańczak, co-executive director of the Ethereum Foundation, mentioned in an X post on April 28 that they are targeting the deployment of the Fusaka Ethereum network upgrade in either Q3 or Q4 of 2025, although the specific timeline is yet to be finalized. The upcoming implementation of the EVM object format (EOF) upgrade for the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) has stirred debates. Stańczak highlighted that EOF is expected to be integrated into the Fusaka network upgrade. The EVM is crucial for running Ethereum smart contracts, and EOF is set to introduce a series of protocol changes through Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) to enhance its operations. The new structure of EOF aims to streamline EVM operations, leading to increased efficiency and reduced processing overhead. One of the EOF EIPs, EIP-4200, proposes an alternative to dynamic jump instructions to prevent potential bugs and malware insertion in smart contracts. However, there are concerns among developers regarding the complexity and necessity of EOF, with some arguing for more incremental updates. A poll on the Ethereum polling platform ETHPulse shows opposition to the upgrade, indicating a divided opinion within the community.
