RBI’s New ATM Transaction Rules Effective May 1, 2025: Changes to Free Limits and Charges Announced by Banks.

Starting May 1, 2025, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will implement a revised ATM transaction framework that will bring about changes to free limits and charges for customers in India. Under the new guidelines, customers will be entitled to three free ATM transactions in metro areas and five free transactions in other locations. Any transactions beyond these limits will incur a fee of Rs 23 per transaction. In light of these changes, banks such as HDFC and PNB have started informing their customers about the updated charges. The objective behind these modifications is to encourage the adoption of digital banking services and to streamline ATM usage across the country. The move is aimed at promoting a cashless economy and reducing the reliance on physical cash transactions. Customers are advised to familiarize themselves with these new regulations to avoid any unexpected charges while using ATMs.
