RBI’s New ATM Transaction Rules: Free Limits and Charges Revised from May 1, 2025. HDFC and PNB Alert Customers.

Starting from May 1, 2025, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will implement a new ATM transaction framework that will bring about adjustments to free limits and charges for customers across the country. Under the revised guidelines, customers will be entitled to three free ATM transactions in metro areas and five free transactions in other locations. Subsequently, a fee of Rs 23 will be levied on each transaction exceeding the prescribed limit. Major banks such as HDFC and PNB have already begun informing their customers about these updated charges in an effort to encourage the adoption of digital banking services and ensure a smoother banking experience. The move is expected to streamline ATM usage and promote the use of electronic payment methods in line with the RBI’s vision for a cashless economy in India.
