The French interior minister, Bruno Retailleau, plans to convene a meeting with cryptocurrency professionals following a violent kidnapping attempt on the family of a crypto exchange executive in Paris. The incident involved the daughter and grandson of Pierre Noizat, co-founder and CEO of French crypto exchange Paymium. Retailleau aims to address the security concerns of businesses operating in cryptocurrencies in France. The kidnapping attempt occurred on May 13 in Paris’ 11th district, where three masked men targeted Noizat’s family members. Passersby intervened, thwarting the assailants and prompting an investigation by local authorities. This event underscores the growing risks faced by cryptoholders, with offline crypto robberies on the rise. Jameson Lopp, a cypherpunk and co-founder of Casa, has documented numerous in-person crypto-related thefts this year. Anonymity is often cited as a crucial defense against such attacks. The incident in Paris is not an isolated case, as similar incidents have been reported in the past, including a recent kidnapping plot involving a crypto entrepreneur’s father. Paris has been a hotspot for such crimes, with cases like the abduction of David Balland, co-founder of Ledger, earlier this year. These incidents highlight the need for enhanced security measures to protect individuals involved in the crypto industry.
