West Indies beat India by six wickets in the second T20 international in Ranchi on October 9, bringing the five-match series level at 1-1. A target of 250 proved insufficient for the hosts as Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford led the successful pursuit.

The result means India’s large first-innings total did not translate into a second consecutive victory. The Indian Express reported that Hope scored 102 and Rutherford contributed 84, with their fourth-wicket stand adding 120 runs after West Indies had slipped to 58 for three.

Ishan Kishan added 43, and their second-wicket partnership produced 97 runs. Roston Chase then removed Kishan and Shivam Dube as West Indies interrupted the home side’s momentum in the middle overs.

Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Varma supplied another burst late in the innings. Iyer made 40 from 18 deliveries, while Varma finished unbeaten on 44. Their contribution helped India recover from those wickets and set a demanding chase, according to The Indian Express.

Sources: Hope, Rutherford star as West Indies defeat India by 6 wickets, level series

The Times of India reported that West Indies finished at 252 for four with nine deliveries remaining. The successful pursuit was their highest in T20 internationals, making the recovery from early wickets a defining part of the evening rather than a routine chase.

Rutherford’s attacking innings contained seven fours and seven sixes. After his dismissal, Romario Shepherd supplied an unbeaten 34 from 13 balls. His contribution ensured that the visitors kept scoring quickly through the closing stages instead of leaving the finish entirely to their captain.

The Times of India’s on-location report described Hope as the steady presence in the chase, while Rutherford supplied the aggressive counterattack. Together, their fourth-wicket partnership gave West Indies a way back into a match that had initially appeared to favour India after both a large total and early breakthroughs.

Sources: IND vs WI 2nd T20I: Shai Hope, Sherfane Rutherford power West Indies to record chase against India

Prepared with AI assistance from the linked reporting.
