New Zealand fast bowler Will O’Rourke will miss the upcoming home ODI and Test series against India while recovering from left hamstring and calf injuries. New Zealand Cricket's decision, reported by Times of India and Indian Express on October 10, is precautionary.

Coach Rob Walter said the choice followed discussions involving O’Rourke and the medical team. The intention is to give the bowler more rehabilitation time and rebuild his bowling workload before he returns to international matches, according to Times of India's report.

The team is looking ahead to its four-Test trip to Australia in December. Walter described a conservative approach to managing the pace attack over the coming months, with O’Rourke's fitness taking priority over his participation against India. That objective remains a recovery target rather than confirmation that he will be available.

Sources: New Zealand rule out Will O'Rourke against India to keep him fit for Australia

Indian Express reported that O’Rourke had returned to international cricket earlier this year after a back stress fracture sidelined him for seven months. He then suffered a hamstring injury during the third Test against England in June, followed by a calf strain during training in late August.

India's tour of New Zealand starts on October 22 with a five-match T20I series. A five-match ODI series follows from November 4, before the two-Test contest begins on November 19. Wellington hosts the first Test and Christchurch the second, according to Indian Express.

O’Rourke's absence therefore affects New Zealand's plans for the longer-format stages of a tour covering T20 internationals, one-day internationals and Tests. The reports identify rehabilitation as the reason for his withdrawal; they do not establish a completed recovery or a guaranteed date for his next appearance.

Sources: Will O’Rourke to miss India Tests, New Zealand hoping pacer is fit in time for Australia tour

Prepared with AI assistance from the linked reporting.
