Defunct cryptocurrency exchange Mt. Gox recently executed a substantial Bitcoin transfer, marking the second such move in a week, coinciding with a price dip to a four-month low on March 11. The transfer involved moving 11,833 Bitcoin (BTC), worth $905.1 million, to a new wallet, with the remaining 332 Bitcoin ($26.1 million) being sent to a warm wallet, as reported by blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain, referencing Arkham Intelligence data. Interestingly, the cost of the transfer for Mt. Gox was a mere $2.13. This significant transfer follows a similar move last week when Mt. Gox transferred 12,000 Bitcoin, valued at slightly over $1 billion on March 6, with $15 million of those funds directed to BitGo, a custodian aiding in the exchange’s creditor repayments. Spot On Chain, another blockchain analytics firm, suggested that the 332 Bitcoin moved to the warm wallet might also be utilized for the repayment process. The Bitcoin market saw a 2.4% decline to $76,784 before rebounding to $79,275 shortly after. Notably, Mt. Gox’s primary wallets currently hold 24,411 Bitcoin, valued at $1.94 billion, following its ongoing sale of Bitcoin assets since June 2024. Mt. Gox, once the dominant Bitcoin exchange from 2010 to 2014, handling the majority of Bitcoin trades, collapsed due to a hack that resulted in the theft of up to 850,000 Bitcoin.
