Amidst the ongoing pandemic, the Indian government has announced new guidelines for Unlock 5.0 to further relax restrictions across the country. The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued these guidelines which allow cinemas, theaters, and multiplexes to reopen from October 15 with a 50% seating capacity. Schools and coaching institutes can also resume operations from October 15, but this decision will be subject to the consent of parents. States and Union Territories have been given the flexibility to take a call on reopening schools in a graded manner. However, the decision to reopen educational institutions will be left to the discretion of individual states. The government has also permitted swimming pools being used for training of sportspersons to open. Entertainment parks and similar places will also be allowed to operate from October 15. Social, academic, sports, entertainment, cultural, religious, political functions, and other congregations have already been permitted with a ceiling of 100 people from September 21. However, these gatherings can be held outside containment zones only. The government has emphasized the importance of following COVID-19 protocols such as wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, and frequent hand washing.
