RBI and NPCI approve hike in ATM interchange fees from May 1 to support operators’ viability. Limited free transactions remain.

ATM withdrawals in India will see a price hike from May 1, as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) have given the green light for an increase in interchange fees. The decision is geared towards ensuring the sustainability of ATM operators’ businesses. Despite the change, cardholders in metropolitan areas will continue to enjoy a set number of complimentary transactions. The move is expected to have an impact on the cost of accessing cash through ATMs across the country.
