Mirza says the recording served public awareness
Dia Mirza has defended her participation in a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation campaign after the civic body removed her Diwali video from its social media handles. Speaking to SCREEN on November 2, the actor said the recording was intended to encourage healthier and more mindful celebrations.
ABP Live also reported her response, including her description of Diwali as a celebration of light overcoming darkness. Mirza placed the appeal in the context of public awareness and concern about air pollution, rather than presenting it as a criticism of the festival.
[1][2]How the video became a dispute
The Indian Express reported that Mumbai BJP chief Ameet Satam objected publicly to Mirza’s inclusion in the campaign. Her video was taken down after that objection. The sequence establishes the timing of the removal; it does not, by itself, supply an official administrative explanation for the decision.
The campaign recording had urged people in Mumbai to avoid adding to air and noise pollution during Diwali. In her response, Mirza questioned criticism of a public-interest message and said efforts to reduce pollution should be welcomed. ABP Live likewise described her defence of the recording as being grounded in community welfare.
[1][2]A question for the civic body remains
According to the Indian Express, similar campaign messages involving Madhuri Dixit, Nishigandha Wad and cricketer Ajinkya Rahane remained available on the civic body’s handles. At the time of that report, the BMC had not clarified why Mirza’s recording alone had been removed.
That unanswered question is separate from the actor’s stated intention. Her explanation concerns why she recorded the appeal; the civic body’s reasoning for withdrawing it requires its own account. Neither the removal nor the objections establish wrongdoing by the actor.
