Why did the authors leave?
Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh said on November 5 that their association with Salman Khan’s war drama Maatrubhumi had ended. In a joint statement shared by Aroor, the authors said their account of the 2020 Galwan clash had brought them onto the project, but the film had since moved beyond that account. They wished the production team well.
The Indian Express and The Hollywood Reporter India separately reported the announcement. The latter identified the source material as a chapter in India’s Most Fearless 3, part of the military reporting series written by Aroor and Singh. The authors’ explanation concerned the relationship between that chapter and the film as it developed.
[1][2]How did the film’s scope change?
The film was initially known as Battle of Galwan, a title that put the border clash at the centre of its public identity. It now carries the title Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace. The Indian Express reported that director Apoorva Lakhia had previously said the production registered both titles and that its approach had broadened as work progressed.
Lakhia described themes including empathy and the experience of soldiers when he explained the title change. The November 5 statement provides a separate account from the authors about why their involvement ended. Their statement gives no detail on any changes to screen credits or on which parts of their reporting remain in the finished story.
[1][2]Who is making Maatrubhumi?
Salman Khan Films is producing the drama, which Lakhia directs. Khan plays Colonel B Santosh Babu, the officer who led the 16 Bihar Regiment during the Galwan clash, according to The Hollywood Reporter India. Chitrangda Singh also stars. Those reported casting details establish a connection to the historical setting even as the authors say the screenplay has moved beyond their specific account.
