The unveiling of Maharashtra’s inaugural Budget after the victory of the Mahayuti government showcases a substantial debt of Rs 9.3 lakh crore, coupled with a revenue deficit of Rs 45,891 crore projected for the fiscal year 2025-26. The budget prioritizes the continuation and enhancement of current schemes over the introduction of new major initiatives. Notably, there is a notable increase in budget allocations for local body polls, indicating a commitment to strengthening grassroots governance. To bolster revenue generation, the Budget proposes the implementation of new taxes aimed at yielding an additional Rs 1,125 crore.
