Manipur’s Kangpokpi district sees hope for peace as slain youth’s body returned, tensions linger over separate state demand.

After the repatriation of a deceased individual’s remains to his relatives in Kangpokpi, Manipur, there is hope among officials for a cessation of demonstrations and roadblocks in the region. Nevertheless, tensions remain high as the Kuki-Zo community pushes for the establishment of an autonomous hill state, which clashes with the existing Constitutional guidelines. Authorities are actively working to foster dialogue with both the Meitei and Kuki-Zo groups in order to find a mutually agreeable solution that adheres to the Constitutional framework.
