More than 19,800 CloneX digital avatars created by RTFKT Studios have reappeared after being blacked out by Cloudflare for allegedly violating its terms of service. The head of tech at RTFKT, Samuel Cardillo, denied missing a payment and attributed the issue to changes in the Cloudflare setup. NFT content creator Wale Swoosh speculated that RTFKT may have subscribed to an inadequate Cloudflare plan for high-traffic image serving. Most of the CloneX NFTs have started to reappear, with Cardillo confirming that Cloudflare has resolved the issue. The incident sparked outrage from some CloneX holders, including one who spent $1.25 million on a CloneX NFT. As a result, Cardillo is seeking a more decentralized solution to host the NFTs. He announced that CloneX will move to the decentralized data storage platform Arweave. RTFKT, which was acquired by Nike in December 2021, has been operating as a one-man show since its closure in January. RTFKT confirmed its closure with a statement claiming to become an “artifact of cultural revolution.” No significant developments have occurred at RTFKT since the closure. In related news, several NFT marketplaces, including DraftKings, GameStop, and Bybit, have closed their platforms due to various reasons. X2Y2 also announced the shutdown of its NFT marketplace as it plans to shift focus to artificial intelligence.
