Tamil Nadu Electricity Ombudsman has recently ruled that independent floors are eligible for separate domestic electricity connections in the state. This decision, based on the 2022 tariff order, comes in response to complaints against the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TNGDCL) for refusing connections in buildings with single owners. The Ombudsman’s decision overturns a previous order by a consumer forum and sets a precedent for cases like that of I John Bosco in Nagercoil. This ruling ensures that each floor of a building owned by a single entity can have its own electricity connection, providing more flexibility and convenience for property owners in Tamil Nadu.
