The sequel’s schedule moves beyond 2027

Ramayana producer Namit Malhotra has confirmed that the second film is now planned for 2028, rather than its earlier 2027 window. The Times of India and Hindustan Times reported his explanation on November 4, ahead of the first instalment’s scheduled November 5 theatrical release.

The change concerns the sequel. It does not move the announced opening of Ramayana: Part 1, directed by Nitesh Tiwari. Malhotra’s comments give viewers a revised year for the next chapter, rather than a specific new day or month.

Why does Malhotra want another year?

In the interview cited by both publications, the producer said the additional time was intended to support the scale of the concluding film. He described a production that had expanded beyond its initial conception as an Indian film being taken to an international audience.

He also discussed two master versions of the first film. The English presentation involves a separate edit and a rewritten script, rather than simply replacing the Hindi dialogue with a dub. The Times of India links that evolving approach to his explanation of why the team wants more time for the sequel.

A possible trilogy remains a possibility

Hindustan Times separately reports Malhotra’s comments to Review Nation about the project’s format. He said an early three-film plan had become two films, while leaving room to reassess the material after audiences respond. That is an indication of flexibility, not confirmation that a third film has been commissioned or dated.

The immediate distinction is therefore between a stated scheduling change and a potential creative expansion. The sequel is being discussed for 2028; a trilogy remains conditional. The ensemble includes Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman and Sunny Deol as Hanuman.
